When I arrived in Tokyo city for the first time in February of 2017, I hadn’t slept in a day. My eyes stung and my arms were heavy as I dragged my luggage into the train heading from Narita to Tokyo proper, but I was finally on my way to the beautiful city I had only seen behind the glow of a screen.
As the train drew closer to my destination, my heart started pounding, my mind was racing; everything I had worked for my entire life, my dream of finally reaching Tokyo was coming true. When we arrived at Shinjuku station, I took the cab to my hotel, and we slowly drove through the city at night to the sound of softly falling rain. It accentuated the neon lights and LCD screens that lined the endless skyscrapers — I knew I had finally made it to the city I had been dreaming about my entire life.
