1. “A chalkboard with the name of the man who killed himself in the house written in big letters. His name was Sam and he lived with his sister. Neither ever married, and when she went to a nursing home, he couldn’t handle it, and he used a shotgun in their dining room (now our kitchen). He has hung around the house ever since, not a lie.
