Chris Martin is turning a recent kiss cam kerfuffle into concert comedy, using the viral moment to entertain fans during Coldplay’s Music of the Spheres tour stop in Madison, Wisconsin.
Greeting the crowd at Camp Randall Stadium, the 48-year-old frontman teased fans with a bit of cheeky humor. “We’d like to say hello to some of you in the crowd and put some of you on the big screen,” Martin announced, according to fan-recorded footage. “How we’re going to do that is we’re going to use our cameras and put some of you on the big screen.”
Then, with a smile, he quipped, “Please, if you haven’t done your makeup, do your makeup now!”
The light banter comes on the heels of a kiss cam moment gone wildly viral during Coldplay’s recent show in Foxborough, Massachusetts. During that performance, former Astronomer CEO Andy Byron was spotted on the jumbotron with his arm around Kristin Cabot, the company’s Chief People Officer — a seemingly sweet moment, except for one major hitch: Byron is married, just not to Cabot.
Caught off-guard by the unfolding awkwardness, Martin commented in real time: “Whoa, look at these two. Alright, come on. You’re OK! Either they’re having an affair or they’re just very shy. I’m not quite sure what to do.” He added, “Holy s***. I hope we didn’t do something bad.”
The pair quickly tried to make themselves scarce, but not before a fan captured the cringeworthy moment and uploaded it to TikTok — where it promptly exploded.
Back at corporate HQ, Astronomer wasn’t amused. The company initiated a “formal investigation” last Thursday and placed Byron on leave. Just a few days later — coinciding with Coldplay’s Madison show — Byron officially stepped down from his role.
“Astronomer is committed to the values and culture that have guided us since our founding,” a company spokesperson told Us Weekly. “Our leaders are expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability, and recently, that standard was not met.”
And so, as the tech firm begins its search for a new CEO, Coldplay’s infamous kiss cam lives on — now with a wink and a warning from Martin himself. — Malay Mail
