Twelve-year-old Tana’s first attempt at breaking a junior gamefishing record may not have ended in a trophy, but it was certainly a trip he will never forget. For three hours and 15 minutes he battled with a huge black marlin, but just as Tana and the crew went to pull it on to the boat, they realised something was wrong. While the head and tail of the 2.7 metre-long fish were in tact, the entire midsection had been devoured by sharks, leaving only the spine connecting the two ends. An incredible photo shows Tana lying alongside his unusual catch, dwarfed by the marlin’s size.
