The other day, as I was leaving a board meeting at the Singapore Malay Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SMCCI) office, I caught sight of the framed photographs of the current board members hanging on the wall. I paused. There, among the faces, was one that felt familiar, not because I have seen it in mirrors for years, but because, in that moment, it felt surreal to see myself there. A Malay woman, a founder of a marketing agency a mother, a community builder, now part of the institution that shapes the direction of our community’s business future.
It was a quiet moment, but it landed deeply. That was when I realised the weight of the work done behind those closed doors. Representation does not always come with a grand ceremony. Sometimes it appears in a hallway, reminding you of how far the journey has carried you and how many others you now carry with you.
More, here.
