Kojo Antwi used his Joy Prime interview monitored by MyNewsGh to critique the global labeling of African music. “Africa is too big,” he said. “What comes out from Egypt, Morocco, our part, even Sagal, you shouldn’t do the same thing everywhere. Our music is too large to identify as one beat.” He praised the commercialization of Afrobeat while cautioning against overgeneralization. “It’s good that it’s commercialized now, but we’ve given it just one name and that’s wrong,” he added. Antwi stressed that African music has diverse influences and regional uniqueness that must be preserved.
