I’ve stopped publishing articles on LinkedIn and Medium. I’ve been writing on both platform since 2013 and 2023 respectfully, and now no more. While LinkedIn gives me nothing except connections and leads for my advisory business, Medium on the other hand gave me between $5 to $15 per month from the content I write. Minus 30 per cent, thanks to Medium’s deduction on taxes, I get the balance of 70 per cent which finally comes to about MYR50 or less. That’s too little for such a decent effort.
I thought if I were to write almost every day, stay within my niche subject by writing in-depth articles and engage with other people’s content regularly would translate to better monetisation—I was completely wrong. The payout rate of most content platforms, as in those writing ones, aren’t friendly to Asian writers. I guess that’s because Asia as a continent doesn’t have as many readers as in European countries and North America. Moreover, Asian readers don’t prefer to pay for premium content, unlike their European and North American counterparts.
It is time for me to act.
Since I couldn’t find any content platform that suites me well, have a decent payout rate to its writers and being fair to Asian writers, I decided to invest in a content platform. I decided to load it up with all the perks I’ve always wanted as a writer. I want to see how this pans out in the next few months or years, as I am giving myself another 12 to 18 months here. It is made in Asia with love, for the world.
300th is planning to pay its writers US$1.50 per 100 views or US$15 per 1,000 views. I want to make it a music to the user’s ears. Even YouTube, I heard, is paying its creators approximately $18 per 1,000 views. 300th’s rate, I hope is going to be competitive to the writers and I want to remain competitive for as long as possible.
I don’t think it is difficult for the user to acquire at least 100 views per article. Now, with more than 500 users already on board in the platform, the search engines are starting to index the content here aggressively. The way I see it, 300th requires more writers to grow rapidly. Personally, I think if 300th has anywhere between 1,000 to 2,000 writers minimum who are actively writing their hearts out regularly, the traffic is going to be crazy—positive crazy I mean. Even now with just 500 writers, we are getting more than 550,000 visitors for the last 30-rolling days, imagine there are 4-times more.
More writers equals more Internet traffic. This will eventually help my articles to be found easily too. I truly am looking forward to being active here on 300th and putting efforts into making my articles able to generate sustainable income for me as well. You are free to join me here writing on 300th.
