Last week, I briefly joined a New Zealand–Papua New Guinea Business Council delegation to Port Moresby and attended a breakfast conference and drinks at the NZ High Commission. Further engagements included an annual budget conference breakfast and an appearance at the CPA PNG Conference. Among many others, I had brief conversations with the PNG Minister of International Trade and Investment Richard Maru, OBE, the New Zealand High Commissioner, Peter Zwart and various business leaders and workers. In most of these conversations, there was a compelling theme: “We see New Zealand’s goodwill. We don’t yet see New Zealand’s capital and investment.”
