Would You Pay $1200 for These “Bathroom Chic” Sandals?

News Asia 360

A social media video has gone viral showing a pair of “trendy sandals” being sold for a staggering price in Saudi Arabia.

The video, originally by user @trndkw__ and reposted by @kuwaitinside on Instagram, shows the sandals displayed in a glass case at a store. The price tag? A whopping 4,590 riyals, which is equivalent to around USD 1,223.64.

The video adds to the intrigue by showing the salesperson, wearing white gloves like those used in luxury stores, carefully retrieve the blue and white sandals. They then showcase the details of the footwear, including the front, back, and even bend it to demonstrate its supposed sturdiness.

But here’s the twist: the sandals look remarkably similar to everyday bathroom slippers. Social media users were left bewildered.

Some commented that the design resembled footwear typically worn in toilets, while others joked that their parents used similar slippers for punishment when they misbehaved as children.

The high price tag for such a familiar item has sparked questions and amusement online. Many viewers wondered if the video was a prank or a satirical take on the luxury fashion industry.

This isn’t the first time high-end brands have caused a stir with unconventional designs.

In the past, Balenciaga has offered a bag strikingly similar to Ikea’s iconic blue bag for a whopping USD2,145. Prada has also entered the fray, selling a paperclip for USD185. Even Gucci has gotten in on the act, with a line of “dirty-looking” sneakers priced in the thousands.
