A grocery store in north-eastern Thailand had an unexpected VIP customer – a wild elephant with a serious sweet tooth and zero chill. This jumbo freeloader waltzed in like he owned the place, helped himself to some tasty snacks, and strutted back out like it was just another day in the jungle. You can view the video here.
Meet Plai Biang Lek, a male elephant with a reputation for dropping by human neighborhoods near Khao Yai National Park (about 200km from Bangkok) for spontaneous snack attacks. He’s no stranger to mischief – locals remember when he previously popped into a village eatery like it was a drive-thru.
But Monday, June 2, was a historic day in his food tour – it was his first-ever grocery store appearance. And yes, it was captured on video. The footage shows Plai casually browsing the aisles (well, as casually as a massive elephant bumping into the ceiling can be) while sampling crunchy Thai treats.
Store owner Ploy said she was helping customers when the elephant strolled in around 3pm, sending everyone running like it was a Black Friday sale gone wrong. She quickly called the national park officers, who arrived to politely suggest the elephant leave. Plai, however, wasn’t finished – he continued his snacking spree, polishing off sweet snacks and even some chicken eggs.
Interestingly, elephants are usually more into salty foods when they crash human parties, so this guy clearly has a unique palate. The damage? Just 1,000 baht (about $31) – not bad for a surprise visit from a massive wild animal with gourmet tastes. —The Star
