The tragic death of a 22-year-old Iraqi YouTuber, Tiba Al-Ali, has sparked international outrage against the ‘honour’ killing. The international communities want the father, who admitted to the killing, to be brought to justice.
On Friday, Saad Maan of the Interior Ministry reported, via Twitter, that Tiba Al-Ali was tragically slain by her own father on January 31 in Diwaniya province, southern Iraq.
Tiba has gained good popularity as a YouTuber and regularly uploaded her recordings of day-to-day life in Turkey. Her dad, however, was not pleased about her decision to reside solo in Turkey. According to a police source, she travelled to Turkey with her family in 2017, but she declined to return home. Tiba then decided to stay back in the country since then.
The murder has stirred up social media in a big way. Amnesty International has vehemently denounced the “inhumane” slaughter in a statement.
