As educators, we often find #inspiration in unexpected places, and my latest source of reflection comes from a show on #Netflix, Culinary Class Wars.
This intense competition features 100 chefs from across the globe, from #Michelin-starred veterans to complete newcomers with no formal training. The most intriguing contestant for me is Cho Kwang-Hyo, also known as the “Comic Book Chef”.
With no culinary background, he began his journey cooking #Tteokbokki in his comic bookshop for his regular customers and from the encouragement he received, it got him inspired to recreate the amazing dishes he read about in mangas and comic books.
From a #pedagogical perspective, Cho’s story highlights the power of passion-based learning. His ‘#AHA #moment’ stemmed from something he truly enjoyed – comic books – and this passion became the catalyst for his creative culinary journey.
It made me reflect on how we, as teachers, might integrate our learners’ #personal #interests into lessons, #sparking that same level of #excitement and #deep #engagement.
As we continue to refine our teaching strategies, it’s worth considering how we can tap into our learners’ passions to inspire learning that goes beyond the classroom.
P.S. I’m rooting for the Comic Book Chef!
