Allah SWT asks us to optimise our time in the world because it is a precious and limited resource that we should not waste. Our time on earth is a test, and we will be held accountable for how we spent it. Allah SWT says in the Al Quran (Surah Al-Asr, 103:1-3).

“By the time, indeed, mankind is in loss, except for those who have believed and done righteous deeds and advised each other to truth and advised each other to patience.”

Therefore, it is essential to make the most of our time by using it to do good deeds, worship Allah SWT, and improve ourselves and the world around us. We should prioritise our time and focus on the things that are most important in our lives, such as our faith, family, and personal growth.

We can benefit from our time by setting goals, making plans, and working towards achieving them. We should also strive to learn new things, acquire new skills, and broaden our knowledge. By doing so, we can make the most of our time and fulfil our purpose in life, which is to worship Allah and do good deeds.

  1. Time is a miraculous creation of Allah SWT, which does not need to prove its existence in this world.
  2. When a clock ticks, time is called a moment. When the sun sets in the west, time is called a day.
  3. When the earth completes one orbit around the sun in 365 days, time changes its name to a year. The movement of time increases day by day, and no one can escape from its grip.
  4. Time makes humans who were once young become old and weak. Time can also mature humans with a collection of experiences.
  5. However, time can sometimes be defeated by knowledge. Humans who have knowledge can change the power of time with the fast vehicles they possess, such as travelling by plane instead of driving a car.
  6. Allah SWT mentioned this principle when he told the story of the miracle of Prophet Sulaiman, who travelled with the wind and could shorten a month into a day. We can liken Prophet Sulaiman’s wind-powered vehicle to an aeroplane today.
  7. Allah SWT gave Prophet Sulaiman the power to use the wind for his travels: “And We gave Solomon the power of the wind, which travelled by his command towards the land which We had blessed.” (Surah Saba 34:12)
  8. Not only that, the angels created by Allah SWT from light have the ability to move quickly through time. It is as if time deals with “angelic technology” in a different framework than human ability.
  9. The angels and Gabriel go to the centre of His governance (to receive and complete their respective duties, especially) at a time that is felt (by the guilty) very long, lasting 50,000 years. (Surah Al-Ma’arij 70:4)
  10. Time is also one of the earliest creatures created by Allah SWT because in many verses Allah SWT mentions the creation of the heavens and the earth in 6 days.
  11. And He it is Who created the heavens and the earth in six days and His Throne was on the water. (Surah Hud 11:7)
  12. Time is only in the world with the rising and setting of the sun and the appearance of the moon. In the other world of Barzakh, there is no longer any measurement of time like in this world. Therefore, humans who died since the time of Prophet Adam or died a day before the occurrence of the Day of Judgment still remain in the same space of time corresponding to the power of Allah SWT as the “Creator of Time.”
  13. Time is a creature bound by the permission of Allah SWT, and Allah SWT is not bound by time at all. It must obey the will of Allah, as the fire once obeyed when it saved Prophet Ibrahim.
  14. Throughout human history, the power of time has been drawn by Allah SWT several times, as in the story of the 7 righteous youths who slept in a cave.
  15. And they stayed in their cave for three hundred years and add nine (more). (Surah Al-Kahf 18:25)
  16. Although time has passed for 300 years, the bodies of these 7 saints remain young like when they first slept. The same goes for Prophet Isa. In normal estimates, he is over 2000 years old, but his youthfulness remains like when he was lifted to heaven. He became immune to time, and age did not affect him because Allah SWT prevented time from touching him.

Here are some ways you can utilize your time effectively:

  1. Set goals. Define your short-term and long-term goals and create a plan to achieve them. This will help you stay focused and motivated.
  2. Prioritise. Identify the most important tasks that need to be done and prioritize them. This will ensure that you are spending your time on things that matter most.
  3. Eliminate distractions. Eliminate any distractions that may be hindering your productivity. This could include social media, emails, or other non-essential tasks.
  4. Practice time management. Develop good time management skills by creating schedules, setting deadlines, and tracking progress.
  5. Learn new skills. Use your time to learn new skills that will help you in your personal and professional life. This could be anything from learning a new language to improving your public speaking skills.
  6. Take breaks. Take regular breaks to avoid burnout and maintain your energy levels. This will also help you stay focused and productive when you return to your tasks.
  7. Help others. Use your time to help others in your community or volunteer for a cause you care about. This will not only benefit others but also give you a sense of fulfilment and purpose.

Remember, time is a precious commodity and once it’s gone, you can never get it back. Therefore, it’s important to use it wisely and make the most of every moment.

Islam and Einstein both emphasize the importance of time and its relative nature.

In Islam, time is considered a precious resource, and Muslims are encouraged to make the most of their time on Earth by utilizing it in good deeds and acts of worship. The Quran emphasizes that time is limited and encourages believers to use it wisely.

“By time, Indeed, mankind is in loss, Except for those who have believed and done righteous deeds and advised each other to truth and advised each other to patience.” [Quran 103:1-3]

Similarly, Einstein’s theory of relativity states that time is relative and can be affected by gravity and velocity. He proposed that time is not an absolute and universal concept, but rather a flexible construct that can change depending on one’s location and movement.

In this sense, both Islam and Einstein’s theory of relativity share the idea that time is not fixed and absolute, but rather a dynamic concept that can be influenced by various factors. They both encourage individuals to make the most of their time and use it effectively in order to achieve their goals and fulfil their purpose in life.
