If you still have hopes left in you to see Malaysia progressing well to benefit the lower and middle-income people, just don’t. And the news about Ringgit sliding down further doesn’t come as a surprise to me. It has been happening to us for years and it will continue to happen in the future. From what I can see, this country is heading towards two groups of income only rather than three. There will be only the rich and the poor. The middle-class group will no longer be around as they will gradually be shifted to either the rich side or the poor.
What does weak currency means to you and me?
It means that people like us are likely to pay more for products and services. That is one. The groceries and the goods we consume on a regular basis, in general, will become more expensive. This is because they are imported or have imported elements in them. I am confident that the local products will also be expensive as the sellers want to take advantage of the price hike.
We can say goodbye to overseas getaways. Even if you’re planning to go to nearby countries within Southeast Asia, it will be damn expensive. The exchange rate doesn’t favour us at all.
Our monthly salary will never be enough to pay for commitments, let alone other nice-to-have things. I guess we need to find alternative jobs, create a business, work on those day and night, and continue working till the day we die. In the future, the day we can rest in peace is when we are no longer in this world.
The question is, what are you going to do?
Relax, all is not lost and we are not that doomed. In an article I wrote before, what matters now is how you are spending your after-office hours. Your life will be determined by it. Here are things you can do to crawl your way out of this economic mess.
- Find a benchmark, someone you truly look up to as a great success-story example.
- Read materials about the person, especially on how he become successful.
- Observe some real-life examples you see happening near you, similar to what you’ve read.
- Take note of all the factors and elements involved that helped those people achieve their dreams.
- Prepare a 12 to 18 months plan. Segregate the plan into several phases. This timeline is to ensure you’re not going to rush the process. Staying practical is important here.
- Take action and execute the plan.
- Continue to improvise the plan as you go along. These new ideas usually are based on your latest reading, observations and personal experience.
Conclusion
The world is going to get even more complicated than today. The fate is in your hand, and in your hands alone. It is now up to you to get this sorted out and get yourself out of the complexity. By the end of the 12 to 18 months plan you’ve executed, you will see a better version of yourself when it comes to survivability.
