Telstra’s Data Involving 132,000 Customers Leaked

News Asia 360

Telstra, the largest telecoms company in Australia, just announced that via an internal error, they inadvertently leaked 132,000 customer records. The company said it’s currently working internally to build and deploy more extensive technology and process to better safeguard customers’ private details.

According to Reuters, Telstra said through its blog post issued on Friday, that said some customers’ names, numbers and addresses were completely exposed.

The telecom giant has identified an issue where people whose information was processed by the company have had their details openly exposed accidentally. The 18.8 million accounts in Telstra equivalent to three-quarters of Australia’s population have had this happen because of a “misalignment” in databases that affected everyone who got their information processed by Telstra.
