The viral videos of ‘sushi terrorism’ continues to affect major sushi restaurants across Japan. Despite many policy changes, public perception is trending downward.
Kura Sushi Inc. took a different approach by installing AI cameras to catch the childish perpetrators. In a statement, Hiroyuki Okamoto, head of public relations for Kura Sushi Inc. said “Our company has been hearing from a large number of customers who tell us they no longer trust or want to go to conveyor belt sushi restaurants. This is a crisis not only for our stores but for the entire conveyor belt sushi industry.”
Public response on social media has been split. Some understand the need for surveillance, while others are uncomfortable at the thought of being recorded while eating. But the majority of the public agrees that a selected few have ruined the sushi conveyor belt experience for everyone.
