Skin Treatment Gone Wrong: A Woman’s Confession Of The Pico Laser Treatment

The advancement of technology has brought out much development of beauty treatment and Pico laser is one of them. It is a type of laser technology used in dermatology and aesthetics to treat various skin issues such as pigmentation, wrinkles, fine lines and acne scars. Not only that, but the laser treatment also enhances the skin’s elasticity and firmness, leading to a more toned and youthful appearance. Sounds good? Yes, it is.

However, this isn’t the case for this Twitter user.

According to her, she learned about the treatment from Instagram ads. Venusde, a beauty salon that’s located in Mid Valley, offers a trial for Pico laser treatment for as low as RM99! In her thread, when she first visited, the beauty salon performed a skin analysis to evaluate the state of her skin. Then, they recommended another treatment which she had to pay on top of the RM99 Pico laser.

The salon, then, told her that they could not perform the laser treatment and that she needed to go through an extraction treatment to her skin first. According to the Twitter user, a hard-selling strategy was used on her until she finally gave in and bought a beauty package offered to her. She added that if you don’t buy any package, they’ll treat you rudely and ask you to leave. Not only that, she also stated that the beauty salon forced customers to post a 5-star review on the spot!

So what happened after that? Well, this unfortunate woman said that her skin worsen after 3 or 4 sessions. She realised that big black spots started to appear all over her face. At first, she thought the side effect might disappear but it was only the beginning. A week later, she contacted a beauty salon representative and they offered her some free treatments.

After her skin become worse, she stopped going altogether. “This was the worst my skin had ever been my whole life”, she said in her tweet.

To treat herself, she had to resort to a dermatologist where each visit would easily cost her around RM200 to RM400. She had to take a lot of medications and creams. The whole experience was a lot of pain too. “At the slightest touch my entire face would throb and start bleeding really badly”, she mentioned in the thread.

The whole experience was a nightmare to her that she had to defer her study for one semester on a doctor’s order. On top of that, she had to take a type of steroid which affected her body and her menstrual cycle.

She reached out to the beauty salon asking for a refund and compensation for her medication. At first, they agreed but after a few weeks, they said that the person who spoke to her was not authorised to give refunds. However, they agreed to give back her money for the treatments that she did not undergo. Despite whatever has happened, Venusde offered her another medical treatment called Platelet-Rich Plasma. Oh gurllllll…..

She obviously rejected the offer and was adamant to get a full refund and compensation. The beauty salon representative only replied to her various WhatsApp text with “Please contact our HQ (headquarter)”. In the end, the Twitter user claimed that she has lodged a police report regarding the whole situation.

As an update, on the 10th of July 2023, the same Twitter user posted this screenshot taken from Venusde’s Instagram account.

My thoughts on this? Well, I’ve been in contact with some beauty clinics on Instagram. For Pico laser treatment, the starting price for a session is RM300. However, it is unsurprising for some places to offer out-of-this-world prices. It can happen but very rarely. I really hope that all this ends well with her though.
