Enough of writing every day on Medium. I’ve been writing on the platform since mid-July 2023 and now it is already December. After four months, my take-home income from the platform is averaging between $5 to $15 per month. Minus 30 per cent, thanks to Medium’s deduction on taxes, I get the balance of 70 per cent which finally comes to about MYR50 or less. That’s too little for such a decent effort.
I thought if I were to write every day, stay within my niche subject by writing in-depth articles and engage with other people’s content regularly would translate to better monetisation—I was completely wrong.
It is time to move on.
I would rather support platforms that are willing to give me a much more reasonable payout. After much consideration, I am going to take a pause writing on Medium and spend more time on 300th instead. I want to see how this pans out, as I am giving myself another six months here. After all, it is a Malaysian product and I am pretty much inclined to support global brands from Malaysia.
300th is paying its authors $15 per 1,000 views. That is music to my ears. Even YouTube, I heard, is paying its creators approximately $18 per 1,000 views. 300th’s rate seems competitive to me and I hope it will remain competitive and reasonable long term.
I don’t think it is difficult for me to acquire at least 1,000 views per article, yet it requires more and more authors to be on 300th so that the search engines can really index massive content here daily. The way I see it, 300th requires more authors to make it happen. A few days ago after talking to their head honcho, Arshad, the platform is working hard to attract more writers from Asia starting this month. To date, the platform has more than 100 authors already. It is ramping up the effort to hit 1,000 authors on board 300th by the end of June 2024. That’s like another 6 more months to go.
I guess with 1,000 authors here actively writing their hearts out regularly, the traffic is going to be massive. This alone will eventually help my articles to be found easily too. I told Arshad that I truly am looking forward to being active here on 300th and putting efforts into making my articles able to generate sustainable income for me as well.
Come and join me to write on 300th. The more authors or writers we have here, the more our articles will be visible. The more visibility our articles have, the more views we are able to get. The more views we get, the more money we will earn out of this platform.
