The Gen Z trio Lee Yu-jeong(CEO), Kim Ye-jin(CMO) and Lee Ji-youn(CTO) found a way to turn oyster shells into everyday soap. Their brand ‘Oh Soap’ is now in the market with their first product, a dishwashing soap.
In South Korea, oysters are affordable and are used in many traditional Korean dishes. Every year, tons of oyster shells are discarded as waste. Giving the founders of ‘Oh Soap’ the idea to upcycle them for everyday use.
“Something that was going to be a waste turned around to be dish soap. So just by using it, we provide consumers with an experience to protect the environment. Our packaging is also biodegradable, which makes our brand distinctive.”
South Korea is the second-largest exporter of oysters, after China. In 2020 alone, South Korea exported 300,000 tons of oysters.
