Netflix doesn’t want users to share their account credentials, but it’s only recently that they’ve started to get cracking. Netflix stayed quiet when users let friends access their accounts before but not anymore. Now that subscriber numbers have significantly dropped, Netflix is now cracking down to strictly ensure that accounts can only be associated with one household. Netflix gathers information like IP addresses and account usage to determine who lives there.
If Netflix identifies an account being used by more than one household, it will charge the customer more. Netflix is testing this idea in selected countries where they charge US$2.99 per month for each additional user. According to Netflix, they will start charging extra in 2023. They offered no further details.
