It is becoming increasingly evident that Malaysians desperately need to prioritise healthier eating. Shockingly, the 2023 National Health and Morbidity Survey (NHMS) reveals that only 4.9% of adults consume adequate fruits and vegetables daily, with the majority of adults consuming a mere two servings of fruits and/or vegetables per day, instead of the recommended five. With this in mind, De Lettuce B.E.A.R, a pioneer of sustainable food solutions, aims to help pave the way towards a healthier Malaysia.

On this note, De Lettuce B.E.A.R is proud to announce its launch of the Omega-3 Enriched Grey Oyster Mushroom, the first of its kind in Southeast Asia. This groundbreaking fungi – of which there are three varieties – provides a new, natural source of Omega-3 fatty acids, offering numerous health benefits while catering to both the growing vegan and health-conscious communities.

De Lettuce B.E.A.R was founded with the intention of tackling the widespread issues of both the demand for environmentally friendly produce and general health deficiencies in the Southeast Asian region. Through the development of an environmentally sustainable indoor vertical farming and hydroponic system, De Lettuce B.E.A.R started producing its flagship line of selenium bio-fortified lettuces. Due to selenium’s antioxidant properties, as well as its role in assisting thyroid hormone metabolism, this means that these lettuces overall offer a higher level of nutrition than other offerings on the market.

“Our mission has always been to uproot the agriculture industry and promote food security through innovative farming practices,” says Dr Jack Wee, Chairman of De Lettuce B.E.A.R. “With the launch of these Omega-3 oyster mushrooms – which are rich in Omega-3 fatty acids and therefore perfectly positioned to support heart wellness, cognitive function, and even eye health – we hope to continue encouraging Malaysians to think more about their nutritional wellbeing, as well as the future of global sustainability in general.”

In addition, De Lettuce B.E.A.R.’s premium production methods are eco-friendly and resource-efficient, taking place in its own state-of-the-art factory. With the company’s focus on proper harvest, immediate post-harvest care, and green packaging, this means that the Omega-3 Grey Oyster Mushroom will get to consumers as naturally and responsibly as possible.

From there, the culinary possibilities are endless! Not only can the Omega-3 Enriched Grey Oyster Mushroom be used in both Western and Asian cuisines, its meaty texture and savoury flavour lends itself well to any cooking style. From sautéing to grilling or even braising, Malaysian cooks can benefit from how versatile and nourishing De Lettuce B.E.A.R’s newest product is.
