Langkawi, a cluster of 99 islands off the coast of Kedah in Malaysia is an electrifying island that was recently awarded Asia’s Best Awards 2022 for being one of the Best Islands in Southeast Asia. This tropical gem that is a top attraction in Malaysia is known for its mangroves rich with flora and fauna, unique culinary scene, duty-free shopping outlets and kid-friendly attractions. It goes without saying that Langkawi is the perfect tourist destination reserved for the kind of tranquillity and transcendental experience that no other place can rival.

Ranked number five in the list among the likes of Phuket, Koh Samui and Bali, Langkawi has much to offer for tourists and visitors of all ages. Its rugged beauty is evident in waterfalls, hot springs, and forest parks. There’s a reason why it’s been nicknamed “The Jewel of Kedah”, after all. The island is home to the only site in Southeast Asia that has been granted the highly coveted UNESCO Geopark status, thanks to its array of impressive rock formations surrounded by ancient jungle, vast caves with stalactites and stalagmites, sea caves and tunnels as well as wildlife.

As the pioneering agency in Langkawi’s tourism development, Langkawi Development Authority or LADA has been playing a major role in establishing Langkawi into the renowned world-class tourism destination that it is today.

Throughout the years, LADA’s commitment has never wavered, hoping to position the island as one of the top 10 tourist destinations in the world. “It has been an honour and we take great pride in having attained this award, as one of the best islands in Southeast Asia. This award is a testament of our continuous efforts and dedication, especially throughout the pandemic when tourist arrival into the island was at its lowest. While faced with many challenges, we remained optimistic and took it upon ourselves to ensure that the island showed resilience in its journey towards recovery and remain top of mind,” said Chief Executive Officer of LADA, Encik Nasaruddin Abdul Muttalib as he beamed with delight.

“As we progress further into the year and with more travel restrictions being loosened, we anticipate the arrival of more international travellers that could potentially revitalise the economy and spur the income of the local community. Our strategy in making this a reality are divided into four principal components, namely Leisure (International & Domestic), Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) and Tourism Events. Our action plan also ranges from promoting green, experiential, and responsible tourism, to incentives such as duty-free shopping and creating Instagram-worthy spots to ensure that we are able to retain our position as one of the best islands in Southeast Asia,” added Nasaruddin.

To further add to this ecstatic news, Four Seasons Resort Langkawi was also awarded the Best Beach or Upcountry Hotel in Malaysia 2022.

There is no denying that a visit to Langkawi will most definitely offer you an inexhaustible experience which is indeed rewarding. Blessed with warm weather all year round, the island makes for a fun destination for those that are looking to unwind or satiate their adventurous side with scuba diving or snorkelling.
