With global cybersecurity company Kaspersky, the Kulim Municipal Council in Kedah has successfully completed an overhaul of its IT infrastructure against cyberattacks. This initiative, in collaboration with ASWANT Distribution, is part of the local council’s efforts to fortify its cybersecurity defences while improving operational efficiency across its digital environment.
The upgrade was proactively driven to address the increasingly sophisticated cybersecurity risks and operational challenges associated with traditional PC-based endpoints.
With the deployment of Kaspersky Thin Client, supported by ASWANT Distribution, a centralised cybersecurity system was implemented to control the use of applications across its network – resulting in simplified security management, improved protection against cyber threats and a 20% reduction in overall IT operating costs.
Following the success of the initial rollout, the Kulim Municipal Council is exploring plans to expand the cybersecurity upgrade to its training centres and laboratories.
“As digitalisation accelerates across Malaysia, it is heartening to see that local public sector organisations like Kulim Municipal Council are taking progressive steps to bridge the cybersecurity gap and modernise their IT infrastructures. This implementation reflects how technology partnerships – backed by the local expertise from partners like Aswant Distribution, can help organisations manage the ever-evolving cybersecurity risks effectively while supporting their operational goals,” says Dmitry Lukiyan Head of KasperskyOS Business Unit.
Kaspersky Thin Client is an operating system for thin clients, built on the KasperskyOS microkernel. Unlike traditional solutions, it does not require antivirus software or additional protection tools, as security is embedded at the architectural level. This approach reduces administration costs, accelerates workstation deployment, and enhances the resilience of IT infrastructure against cyberattacks.
“Our collaboration with Kaspersky and ASWANT Distribution has been instrumental in strengthening our cybersecurity posture while enhancing operational efficiency. The Kaspersky Thin Client helps us improve and secure our local services efficiency and deliverables. For example, the implementation of KTC has enabled centralized management, reduced our exposure to cyber threats, and delivered a 20% reduction in IT operating costs. We look forward to extending this strategic upgrade to additional departments in the coming months,” says Gs Ts Mohammad Daniel Bin Shukor, Information Technology Officer, Kulim Municipal Council.
Kaspersky partnered with ASWANT Solution in 2023 with the mission to equip businesses and organizations in Indonesia and Malaysia with built-in thin client security—an essential move in response to the growing cyberthreats in both regions. ASWANT delivers the Centerm F620 hardware—preinstalled with Kaspersky Thin Client based on KasperskyOS—to customers in the Malaysian and Indonesian markets as part of the Kaspersky Thin Client offering.
