Khairul Kiasan On The Intersection of Creativity, Entrepreneurship, and Family

Everything happens for a reason. Yet, we have to understand clearly every problem that happens so that we know how to overcome it. Then match it with our strength—by looking and digging deeper into ourselves and the talents God has given us. That’s how I overcome each problem I’m facing. And, it would be easier if there were opportunities in hand. FYI, I start seeing this pattern after experiencing problems myself and learning a lot from other people too.

We must be good at finding opportunities. To me, it’s a 50-50 thing. The opportunity could be ours or it could be someone else’s. To increase our chances of grabbing it, there is no other way than to keep improving ourselves and learning something new. Learning something that can deepen our knowledge and skills that are related to our careers will help increase our winning chances.

Talking about the source of inspiration, I get it from films and TV shows that I watched, and from social media content too. It’s all about understanding the stories shown, what sort of challenges are being shared and how the turnaround sparked that triggers success. Apart from that, I listen to pearls of wisdom from older people. Their experiences usually are solid because they are real life. These stories aren’t available anywhere in the media And, travelling helped me too.

I’m proud to be born a creative person. Yes, the niche is very subjective and tough. A good creative person must be able to adapt to the environment to produce great results. Not many can do this, but I can. The only requirement a creative person has is just one—a stable income. That is why I hope that soon I will have a job that will allow me to have a permanent financial income so that I can continue to grow my creativity. Stable income matters as it won’t disrupt my thought process and quality deliverables. Furthermore, I have an autistic child, so the financial resource part is always my priority.

My dream is big. I dream of having an agency of my own. I want to be involved in films, advertisements, and TV productions which can provide good income for my family. At the same time, I want to own a barber shop combined with a cafe too. I think it will be cool. I know, doing this alone is difficult. The only way I can realise my dream is if I can meet the right people who share the same interests.

If I could go back in time, I would’ve obeyed what my father said. I realised that we are the only ones responsible for our own lives and not others. Maybe instead of following my passion and spending time in the creative industry, I would be an entrepreneur involved in more traditional industries such as the clothing business, food or even transportation which could be better than creative. Another thing is about wasting time. Rather than spending way too much time on social media and hanging out unnecessarily, it is better to focus on staying productive by doing what matters.
