Japan: New COVID-19 Vaccine Rolling Out For Elderly In May

The government is considering rolling out a fresh vaccine rollout coming May.

The government of Japan is considering another vaccine rollout in May. The first to receive this fresh vaccine will be the elderly with underlying medical conditions and healthcare professionals, according to an official announcement by the health ministry on Wednesday.

The plan after is to expand in September to those over 5 years old with two complete rounds of vaccinations. Any final decisions around the new policy will be made in early March. This rollout comes despite Japan’s decision to change the legal status of the virus to the same category as the common flu.
