Recognizing this, Prof Dr Intan Hashim from University Sains Malaysia has advocated for the inclusion of a Happiness Index in the evaluation criteria for various institutions, including universities, schools, states, organizations, and government agencies.

Traditionally, assessments of performance and success have been largely based on tangible metrics such as passing rates, CGPA, and financial profit. While these indicators are undoubtedly important, they often overlook the fundamental aspect of happiness and satisfaction among individuals within these institutions.

By introducing a Happiness Index, we aim to create a more holistic approach to evaluation, one that considers not only academic or financial achievements but also the overall well-being of individuals and the quality of their working or learning environment.

Formulating a Happiness Index involves identifying key elements that contribute to happiness and satisfaction. These may include factors such as work-life balance, job satisfaction, sense of purpose, social connections, physical and mental health, and personal growth opportunities.

In Malaysia, implementing a Happiness Index requires concerted efforts and action plans at various levels:

Research and Data Collection: Conduct comprehensive research and surveys to gather data on the happiness levels of individuals across different sectors and demographics. This will provide valuable insights into the factors influencing happiness and areas requiring improvement.
Developing Evaluation Criteria: Collaborate with experts in psychology, sociology, and organizational behavior to develop a framework for assessing happiness within organizations and educational institutions. Define clear criteria and metrics to measure happiness and satisfaction effectively.
Training and Awareness Programs: Provide training and awareness programs to educate leaders, managers, educators, and employees about the importance of happiness and well-being. Foster a culture that prioritizes mental health and work-life balance.
Implementing Policies and Initiatives: Introduce policies and initiatives aimed at improving happiness and satisfaction levels within organizations and educational institutions.
