Government: Families Moving Out Of Tokyo Will Be Compensated Up To ¥1 Million

News Asia 360

Up to ¥1 million or about $7,476 per child will be compensated by the government to families who want to relocate to the regional areas from the Tokyo metropolitan area. This effort is part of the initiatives to bring the population down in the capital city of Japan.

This will be exercised starting April 2023. According to the source familiar with this, this is an additional ¥700,000 per child from the original ¥300,000 set previously. Each relocating family is enjoying up to ¥3,000,000 as the base financial support which is already being given, and the ¥1 million will be on top of it.

This fresh incentive showcases the government’s seriousness in tackling the present population concentration in the city. Among the most populated ones are the 23 wards of Tokyo. It makes up the core metropolitan area. People in this area and its surroundings such as Saitama, Chiba and Kanagawa prefectures, are eligible for this relocation initiative.
