Get Ready For More Noise, LinkedIn Is Pushing For More Videos Now

I came early to the office today. Usually I would go to Fika, a Swedish word for coffee or cafe, and get my morning coffee fixed, but not today. Tons of work to do, so I just go straight to it. One hour in, there’s an incoming text. Once done with it, I thought of checking my LinkedIn for a quick one. I used my mobile for it. Right away, I noticed something new.

Videos for you. This is interesting—to some people but not to me.

You know, I’ve already quit all social media, except this one. The original plan is to completely quit LinkedIn very soon. I don’t have a firm target date yet but it’s going to be in a few months time, or perhaps in a year at most. I still like LinkedIn though although things aren’t really the same it used to be before. The noise in the platform is pretty much beyond my expectation. Everyone wants to ride the personal branding boat thingy—I get it.

Now with this Videos For You layer over there, which I presume LinkedIn is pushing it on mobile first, is triggering my plan to quit LinkedIn even earlier. It will definitely ‘encourage’ more and more LinkedIn users to spend more time on the platform by consuming videos, it will at the same time ‘encourage’ those personal branding junkies to create even more videos.

My time on LinkedIn is getting numbered anyway. It’s just too freakin’ noisy there. And it’s going to be worse, just like Facebook. It gives me more and more reasons to quit LinkedIn and focus on publishing my articles and thoughts on 300th instead.

Thanks LinkedIn for the memories.
