From Graphic Design To Coding, A Career Change That Paid Off

Being a web developer was not my career choice originally. During my university days, I wanted to become a graphic designer. In fact, I was the only one in my secondary school to discover Photoshop and design things using it. That’s how I started—very early. From there, I further explore my curiosity by exploring photography after that.  After secondary school, I wanted to pursue my dream to become a full-fledged graphic designer. So, I enrolled in one of the local universities that offered Islamic studies with multimedia, as I badly wanted to pursue graphic design. However, something happened. In my third year, while starting a production team with my friends where we were doing some projects involving graphic design, wedding photography and all the creative stuff, I discovered that web development was a better fit for me than graphic design. I enjoyed the problem-solving aspects of coding and the technological challenges more than how I enjoyed designing.  I can spend four to eight hours a day developing a website, no problem. And I couldn’t do the same when designing something. That was when I realised that I have the knack and talent for web development. And, this skill somehow was in high demand, especially in the job market at that time—and still is until today. To me, transitioning into web development was a good decision. I find it fulfilling.
