Move over, Superman! There’s a new super commuter in town, and she trades capes for boarding passes. This Penangite wonder woman, Racheal Kaur, laughs in the face of rush hour traffic by flying to work in KL. Yes, you read that right. She’s basically a human airbus, commuting daily between Penang and KL.
Forget battling traffic jams – Racheal’s morning commute involves a leisurely 5 a.m. drive to the airport. While you’re still hitting snooze, she’s probably already soaring through the clouds, sipping her in-flight coffee. “Boarding is at 5:55 a.m.,” she says, as if that’s a perfectly normal time to be anywhere but under a duvet. “Gives me plenty of time to, you know, park my car, put on my shoes, walk over…” Sounds suspiciously like my routine for grabbing the milk from the fridge, except, you know, with more jet fuel.
This airborne adventure started when Racheal realized renting in KL was costing her more than her mortgage back home. Plus, with two growing kids (12 and 11), she wanted to be there for the last-minute homework panics that only a mom can handle. Because who needs bedtime stories when you can have a bedtime flight?
And the best part? This high-flying lifestyle is actually cheaper than living in KL! Thanks to employee discounts at AirAsia (where she works – talk about a perk!), her daily commute costs her around RM50, or RM1,100 a month. That’s less than her old KL rent! She even skips the KL traffic jams by walking a measly 5-7 minutes from the airport to her office. So, while everyone else is stuck in gridlock, Racheal’s probably already at her desk, plotting world domination… or maybe just answering emails. Either way, she’s doing it in style.
