A drone in central China was modified into a flying device that can shoot flames to destroy over 100 wasp nests.

The group called Blue Sky Rescue, which helps in emergencies like search and rescue operations, has joined hands with villagers in Zhong County close to the city of Chongqing. In efforts to buy a drone and modify it to include a gasoline tank and a nozzle, the group raised 80,000 yuan ($12,200).

Blue Sky Rescue recently shared videos showing their six-armed drone being used to eliminate a wasp nest. The drone hovers above the hive, which is as large as a suitcase, and then moves down towards it. The operator turns on the ignition, and the drone sprays fire onto the nest.

“The burning ashes of the wasp’s nest gradually peeled off and fell, and the surrounding residents applauded and praised the rescue team,” according to a report from a news application run by state-owned Chongqing TV.

“Now we don’t have to worry about being stung by a wasp.” said one of the villagers, thanking Blue Sky.

According to Blue Sky, they have destroyed 11 hives using the drone, but there are still over 100 more to eliminate.
