During the pandemic, the app saw rapid growth in downloads, a 93% increase in month-to-month downloads in March 2020 and a 101% increase in month-to-month downloads in September 2020. Moreover, in H1 of 2022, Discord ranked 4th for the Top Communication Apps by Downloads, worldwide, just behind Facebook Messenger.

Originally built as a platform to give gamers the space to form a community and connect, the app has since appealed to other like-minded users to use the platform for other interests, ranging from sports, music, films, investing and other everyday uses. Communication apps such as Discord have continued to see sustained success post-pandemic, indicating that platforms that facilitate video and audio communication are here to stay. According to App IQ, Discord even ranked #3 globally in the Top Communication Social Media App by Revenue in H1 2022 coming after LINE and QQ.

Discord has audiences all over the world and has been able to create a social space where various communities interact even in the Asia region. Just this year, India, Indonesia and the Philippines made the Top 10 Markets by Download charts on iOS and Google Play.
