During the pandemic, the app saw rapid growth in downloads, a 93% increase in month-to-month downloads in March 2020 and a 101% increase in month-to-month downloads in September 2020. Moreover, in H1 of 2022, Discord ranked 4th for the Top Communication Apps by Downloads, worldwide, just behind Facebook Messenger.
Originally built as a platform to give gamers the space to form a community and connect, the app has since appealed to other like-minded users to use the platform for other interests, ranging from sports, music, films, investing and other everyday uses. According to App IQ, Discord even ranked #3 globally in the Top Communication Social Media App by Revenue in H1 2022 coming after LINE and QQ.
