Decision Making 101: How To Make A Good Decision

As a business leader, our decisions matter in a big way. They determine whether our business succeeds or fails.

The ability to make decisions is an essential skill we all must have. Even in a day-to-day operation, decisions will contribute to a business’s overall progress. Indecisions, decisions that don’t make any perfect sense or criticising other people’s decisions without giving alternative solutions can halt progress. That’s why not many companies experience rapid growth out there. Many aren’t. This could be the major culprit.

One of the best ways to decide effectively is through proposing, listening, debating, deciding, and executing. Here’s how it works. First, I have an idea. After getting it cleaned up, I propose the polished version of the idea to my team. They will share their feedback and why, plus alternative solutions which could be better. I just keep my mouth shut and continue listening. Then we debate about the details. This is the part where we will stumble upon more facts, examples and even better ideas. Afterthat, we make a decision. The execution part comes easy from then on. Difficult? No. Unless there are egos in between—then yes.

Personally, that is how I decided things for my companies previously, and for my Content & Marketing team at Lexi Solution now. Yes, it is that simple. It’s not only effective, it’s also honest, it’s collective, crystal clear and the impact of it will be whole. That’s the winning formula for me when it comes to decision making in my opinion.
