Ensuring children receive proper nutrition is crucial for their overall health and future well-being. Neglecting this can have severe, long-term consequences. A tragic case involving an eight-year-old child illustrates the importance of balanced nutrition.

According to Dr. Erna Nadia, a medical professional, the child suddenly lost their vision while in class. After undergoing extensive medical testing, the child was diagnosed with severe Vitamin A deficiency. Dr. Erna shared this story on Facebook, based on an account from her dietitian friend.

Dr. Erna expressed mixed emotions regarding the situation. While she sympathized with the parents’ challenges, including their demanding lifestyle, she also felt frustrated by the poor dietary choices that led to such a dire outcome. She stressed the importance of providing children with nutritious meals, even for busy families.

She advised parents to prioritize accessible and healthy options, such as chicken rice or rice noodle soup, over heavily processed foods. “It’s okay if you have to feed them yourself,” she said. “The key is to ensure they get the nutrition they need.”

Dr. Erna’s post sparked significant discussion online. Many netizens echoed her concerns, suggesting the child might have been a picky eater, a common issue for parents. Others pointed out the unhealthy food choices often packed for children’s school snacks, such as junk food or fried items.

The dietitian who investigated the case revealed that the child’s diet consisted almost entirely of processed foods, such as nuggets, sausages, and cookies, from infancy to the present. Shockingly, this incident occurred in the capital city, and the child’s parents held non-traditional, demanding jobs.

On the same topic, a post from Indonesian nutritionist went viral on the late December 2024. The post showed what Korean children eat at school. The netizens praised their healthy and balanced meals and concluded that that is the reason why most Koreans are tall.
