Biting Cold Grips Vietnam: PM Urges Swift Action

In response to the prolonged and severe cold wave impacting northern and north-central localities, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has issued a directive mandating immediate and comprehensive action from local administrations and relevant ministries to mitigate the effects on citizens and agricultural production.

A powerful cold airwave has swept across the northern region in recent days, plunging temperatures below 10°C. Higher elevations in the mountains have borne the brunt of the icy blast, with frosted landscapes emerging.

The region is in the throes of its most intense cold spell this winter, according to the National Hydrometeorological Center (NHC).

As frosty winds descend upon the northern and north-central regions, the Vietnamese government has swiftly enacted a comprehensive plan to mitigate the harsh impact of the cold wave on both human well-being and agricultural production. This proactive approach underscores a commitment to resilience and proactive adaptation in the face of unforeseen weather challenges.

The dispatch recognizes the vital role of transparent communication during the cold wave. This means special attention will be given to vulnerable groups like children and the elderly; and providing guidance for farmers and animal owners.

Local authorities are mandated to maintain robust weather monitoring protocols and issue timely and accurate public advisories to ensure community preparedness for evolving weather conditions.

The Vietnamese government has entrusted the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) to navigate the complexities of the ongoing cold wave and mitigate its impact on both livestock and crops. This proactive stance prioritizes agricultural sustainability and food security in the face of unpredictable weather patterns.

Meanwhile, The Ministry of Health was tasked to equip citizens with vital disease prevention tools through coordinated media campaigns and targeted outreach.

In the face of the biting cold wave, the Vietnamese government has forged a powerful alliance with media outlets, amplifying a vital message across the nation. The dispatch by the Prime Minister called for a concerted effort by the Ministries of Natural Resources and Environment, Communications and Information, Vietnam Television, Voice of Vietnam, Vietnam News Agency, and other press agencies. This united front ensures that crucial information on coping with the severe cold reaches every corner of the country.
