In line with Malaysia’s goal to reach 60,000 accountants by 2030, 20 secondary school students have emerged victorious as recipients of accounting scholarships worth a total of RM3 million. The students attained this achievement at the National Accounting Quiz Challenge (NAQC) 2023 organised by TYMBA Education, which took place from 9th to 17th December 2023.
Since its founding in 2021, TYMBA has hosted the NAQC in an effort to inspire and motivate young minds towards a rewarding career in accounting. The quiz aims to create an opportunity for students in Form 4 and Form 5, particularly those from the Bumiputera community, to showcase their understanding and expertise in accounting and demonstrate their skills.
The quiz included SPM-level questions which incorporated several High Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) questions inspired by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) as well as the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), providing a more nuanced assessment of participants’ aptitude for professional accountancy skills. As of the latest event, the NAQC has accumulated RM1.8 million in scholarships from Yayasan Peneraju Pendidikan Bumiputera (Yayasan Peneraju) and the Malaysia Professional Accountancy Centre (MyPAC).
“Our goal is to carve out a clear path for all accounting talents in Malaysia to have access to specialised education and, ultimately, a successful career,” says Airil Razali, Chief Executive Officer of TYMBA Education Group. “For the 2023 NAQC, we witnessed 3,500 students participating — clearly, there’s a growing interest in the field. We hope that by giving these young talents a platform to showcase their skills and knowledge, they can confidently move forward towards continuous excellence in the accounting field.”
As a global professional accountancy centre, TYMBA seeks to create more Chartered Accountants that are highly competent and equipped with the skills required to traverse the ever-changing environment of the industry. In fact, TYMBA has successfully assisted more than 3000 students to pass their examinations by providing them with carefully selected tutors.
This accomplishment has resulted in the attainment of global accreditations, including recognition as an ACCA Approved Learning Partner, an ICAEW Partner in Learning, and a BPP Tuition Solution Associate Provider. TYMBA‘s dedication to education, coupled with the outstanding efforts of the organising team, has played a pivotal role in the triumph of this endeavour. The organisation shares similar objectives with the ACCA and ICAEW to cultivate the future generation of accountants and business leaders.
“TYMBA’s commitment to education and the remarkable efforts of the organising team have contributed significantly to the success of this initiative. Together, we share a common goal of preparing the next generation of accountants and business leaders, and we appreciate the dedication and hard work demonstrated by TYMBA in achieving this shared vision,” said Raymond Chang, ACCA’s Business Development Manager for Education.
“In line with ICAEW’s strategic foundations to increase trust in the profession and support the growth of talent and diversity – we are pleased to endorse initiatives that promote interest and awareness regarding the crucial role of solid business, accountancy, and financial expertise in advancing a robust economy,” added Ms Shenola Gonzales, the Head of Malaysia for ICAEW. “We are delighted to participate in TYMBA‘s efforts to train additional ICAEW students, particularly contributing to the growth of Bumiputera professionals and chartered accountants in Malaysia and beyond.”
In charting the course for the future, TYMBA remains resolute in its commitment to nurturing the accounting talent of tomorrow. Through events like the NAQC, TYMBA strives to provide young accounting talents from every school in Malaysia with a competitive and robust platform where they’ll become future leaders of the ever-changing accounting landscape.
