Many games are nearly flawless throughout their runtime thanks to impeccable gameplay, world design, side quests, and their overall narrative, but it only takes one major issue to sour the whole experience. For the case of several games, this major issue is their endings, which either completely upend their themes and messages, make developing sequels immensely complex, or are just simply so bad that they ruin most of the game and replays.
For example, Halo 2’s ending was highly controversial back in 2004 due to how it abruptly ended on a cliffhanger just as Arbiter joined with humanity and the majority of the Covenant invaded Earth, only for fans to wait three years to see the story be resolved.
