Whether it’s the beautifully stark backdrops, the feeling that danger is always lurking just beneath a snowbank, or all of that covetable knitwear, there is something utterly irresistible about a Nordic thriller (or Nordic noir, if you prefer). Some of the very best TV series have hailed from this chic European regions – and the most brutally tense, too.
Of course, we all know the genre’s stalwarts: The Bridge, The Killing and Wallander are all but cemented into our brains at this point. Thankfully, though, the genre has risen back to popularity recently with a new wave of series that are sleek, emotional, atmospheric and quietly addictive.
